Champions League Odds
Manchester City are the bookmakers’ 11/2 favourites and they will surely never have a better chance as Pep Guardiola has built an impressive winning machine domestically and failing to better their sole semi-final appearance of 2015/16 would be a massive failure.
The price is a touch short for a team that has never reached a Champions League final before and next best in the betting are Barcelona at 13/2. The Spanish champions won this tournament for a fourth time in ten years in 2014/15 but haven’t gone beyond the quarter-finals since.
Real Madrid are 8/1 as they bid to win the Champions League for a fifth time in six years, but how will they cope without Cristiano Ronaldo? Much depends on Gareth Bale and the Welshman is 20/1 to be top goalscorer.
Ronaldo has of course departed for Juventus and he has been top scorer in the Champions League in each of the previous six seasons, sharing the award once with Lionel Messi and Neymar in 2015. The presence of Ronaldo could be the addition that gets Juventus (7/1) over the line after they finished runners up in 2015 and 2017.
A double on Juventus to win the Champions League and Ronaldo to be top scorer is 14/1 with Betfred.
Meanwhile, Paris St-Germain are 8/1 despite their propensity for bottling it in the big games and they have never gone beyond the last-eight.
Last season’s runners up, Liverpool, are 12/1 but there is a train of thought that they would be better off focusing on the Premier League.
Tottenham (25/1) and Manchester United (30/1) make little appeal off the back of slow starts to the season.
Bayern Munich (9/1) are perennial contenders and the 2013 champions have reached five semi-finals in the past six years, while the 2018 Europa League winners, Atletico Madrid (14/1) have reached one semi-final and two finals in the past five years.
