Man City v Burton Tips
The Citizens have won the League Cup three times in the previous five years and they have only lost three games in the competition since 2012, winning 22 (including penalties and extra-time).
City are 1/25 for the win on Wednesday and it is difficult to look beyond another comprehensive victory for Pep Guardiola’s men, even if they have been guilty of underestimating lesser sides in the past.
They were pushed hard by Bristol City at this stage of the competition twelve months ago, although we worry for Burton Albion this week.
Nigel Clough’s men have beaten Aston Villa, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup this season, although a trip to Manchester City is a completely different kettle of fish.
Burton, who are ninth in League One, have failed to score in four of their past six away games – the City win to nil is available at 4/9 with Coral.
This is Burton’s first ever appearance in the semi-finals of the League Cup – they had never previously gone beyond the third round – and it could be a painful occasion.
They can be competitive to start with but City’s quality will tend in the end and we’re backing the hosts to cover a -2 goal handicap in the second-half (PaddyPower). Guardiola will want his side to get the job done in the first leg so he can rest players for the trip to Burton, particularly with some huge Premier League and Champions League matches coming up.
City thrashed Rotherham 7-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday and Kevin De Bruyne marked his return from injury was a majestic display. It remains to be see if De Bruyne starts on Wednesday as he continues to find full fitness, but it will be worth a look at him in the first or last goalscorer markets (8/1 with Betfred).
Check to see if De Bruyne is in the squad as he has notched eight goals in his last twelve EFL Cup appearances, with Unibet going 9/5 that he scores anytime.
